Lingleville, TX (8/18/2011)
- It was a beautiful weekend for racing at Loretta
Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN as the
2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships came to a
close. With temps in the low 90’s and little
humidity, there was a buzz in the air among racers
and fans.
One racer with high expectations on the weekend
was Iowa’s own, Cam Reimers. Although not
able to make it to all of the 11 rounds in 2011
AMA Championship, his appearance at the selected
rounds has not gone unnoticed by fellow racers
as well as fans. Strong charges to the front in
all of his motos have left him as a rider to be
reckoned with.
As practice day rolled around on Friday, Reimers
was putting together some fast lines and hot laps
around the Loretta Lynn’s track and sat
at the top of the charts with fastest lap time
in his first 2 sessions. As the track developed
some new lines and got rough, several bike changes
were made to his Can-Am DS450 before the final
practice which left him feeling very comfortable
on the bike. It showed with the fastest lap by
over 2 seconds in the final session.
On Saturday, the first moto of the morning kicked
off with College 16-24. The large class was split
into two heats seeing Dylan Tremellen take the
win in the first heat. The second heat would see
Reimers come from a 5th place start and waste
no time getting to the front to take the win.
The next moto of the day was Open A. The Can-Am
mounted rider of Reimers got off to a midpack
start after a late gate pick. Another quick charge
to the front, and he was into the 2nd spot on
the 3rd lap. Unable to make the pass on fellow
Can-Am rider, Merrill Crose, Reimers would settle
for a 2nd in this first moto. A solid Saturday
would leave Reimers in great shape entering the
second motos on Sunday.
Another beautiful day on Sunday morning in Tennessee,
and the top 20 qualifiers in College 16-24 lined
the gate awaiting the start of the second moto.
When the gate dropped, all of the top players
were out front with Reimers close in tow as he
rounded the first corner in 5th. Reimers made
an aggressive block pass before the famous “Ten
Commandments” section that put him from
5th into 3rd. The Can-Am rider was in hot pursuit
for the lead as he made quick work of 2nd place
and began to close the gap on the leader. At the
end of the 2nd lap, he buried his DS450 deep into
the right-handed sweeper approaching the finish
and made the pass around the outside to take over
the lead. He crossed the finish line with a big
gap over the rest of the field giving him a 1-1
score and the overall win.
When interviewed on top of the box, the L16 Film’s
rider had this to say, “I was feeling really
good all weekend; the bike was working great and
this track really suits my style. The dirt is
very similar to what we have in Iowa and the flat
layout leaves you needing to attack all of the
sections to make up time. I knew if I could get
off to a good start that I had the speed to get
to the front. I’m just very happy to be
up here and can’t thank everyone enough.”
Reimers would not be content with just one win
on the weekend and set out for the overall win
in his next class, Open A. At the gate drop Reimers’
DS450 rocketed to the first corner only to be
edged out by KTM rider Caleb Baumann. Reimers
got aggressive within the first few corners and
was able to take over the top position and lead
the whole race. The 2-1 moto finishes would give
the Can-Am mounted rider another overall victory
on the weekend.
“We have been working so hard this season
and could not be happier with the performance,”
said Reimers. “To get two overalls feels
amazing, especially at such a prestigious track
as Loretta Lynn’s. I could not do this on
my own though and have to thank all of the awesome
people helping me out this year: L16 Films, Motoworks,
DWT, Fox Racing Shox, SSI Decals, Fast Fwd Clothing,
Fly Racing, Scott USA, K&N Filters, Rath Racing,
Can-Am, CR21 Performance, Louis Powersports, Ti-Lube,
, BCS, Precision, AXO, Leatt Brace, Renthal, and
Acerbis.”
