HDR photographs - cool HD pic's here - post up your HDR pic's

    What is HDR?
The acronym HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. In Adobe's implementation within Photoshop CS2 this is accomplished by using a series of photographs which one takes in the same manner as with previous blending techniques, and then using floating point 32 bit (per channel) math, merging these files automatically into one huge high dynamic range image.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is basically merging 3 or more pictures (1 under exposed, 1 normal exposure, 1 over exposed) into one, by using digital photo editing sofware, photoshop, photomatix, etc, to truely be able to see all of the highlights and shadows that you would not be able to see in just 1 picture.

Almost all monitors, and other ways of displaying the HDR images have a limited dynamic range, so you have to convert the image into a viewable format called "tone mapping". pretty much a way to tap into how the human eye see's a scene, all of the dynamic range, while retaining a realalistic color and contrast.

this is one way of editing digital pictures. but my pictures are 3 image and tone mapped.

For more info google HDR photographs:

Here is a couple pic's that my son has done. he says good sun light helps out the overall effect of the picture. Will post up some more of his 450r when the weather gets better.

PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS AND POST UP SOME OF YOUR HDR PIC'S

You cant actually see a true HDR image on todays monitors, they just arent capable of it. However the effect of exposure blending that most call HDR is actually tone mapping.

www.hdrsoft.com I believe they offer a free trail download as well as others.

It works best when you actually have a scene that offers a high dynamic range of light.

I've played with the program but havent done much with it.

To get the full effect of the process, you need a wide range of light, and use multiple exposures. Ive seen up to 10 exposures merged. Then you play with the sliders to get the effect you want. Halo's are generally frowned upon around objects, and some (like me) prefer it to look really natural but some of the wilder photos i've seen are intense.

Lately i've seen several good shots done using 1 raw file, but it still usually takes multiple exposures to capture the gamut of light needed.

My favorites are usually the ones done on the beach

This one isnt the best but it shows what it can do. I will try and find some that are just plain outstanding. (This is NOT my picture)
