I was wondering what all I should get to be competitive with my 300EX in racing, right now I have this stuff on my list:
DG Krome Lite Nerfs
Renthal Handle Bars (Since mine are bent)
14tooth Renthal sprocket(Figure go up one)
AC Racing Front Bumper
WhiteBrothers E series complete system
Works Steelers Front Shocks(would I need rear too, or could I live w/o for awhile)
K&N Power Kit (for the jets and filter)
Parking Brake Block off
Number plates.
I figure that would be good to start off seeing that its about 1,500$ for all that stuff. Any other suggestions.
Thanks
What kind of racing will you be doing? But anyway you have a good amount of mods to start racing but not enough (if you want to win) First of all definetly dont go up one more tooth on the sprocket it is already 1 tooth larger that stock. I dont even think they make a 15 tooth. You should get a wider axle (Durablue or lonestar) get +2+1 a-arms, (laeger, brugard, etc...). Than you gotta start going into the engine. Get a cam (I like my white bros cam). get a stock bore je 10.8:1 piston, or you could bore it to a 330 and that is supposed to beat 400exs. Also get a pro design kill switch. Hope this helped.

ive got a 400ex im setting it up for mx, i have 8000 invested so far, that includes the price of the 400......i thing i still have another 2500 to go....id say you would want this, you dont need anything really, but this makes it more fun..\
wider aarms
wider axle
tires
beadlock rims
renthals
nerfs
bumper
kill switch
number plates
numbers
anywhere from a pipe to a full blown 4,000 dolla engine....id recomend a pipe cam bigbore airfilter...around 1000
front shocks def.
maybe rear shock ,,not necissary
a bunch of little things that are cheap to make it look cool
i am so tierd of hearing ppl on this board say you need all this money into your quad or you can't winn at all...i ate up all the modded 400s in arena cross and i have very cheap mods..untill u can use the quad to it full potential on the mx track mods will not help you...the only things you need to race are ama card, district card, numbers, gear, health insurance and two large balls....all the mods in the real won't make you fast if you can't use them right due to not having experiance

True:
But I think for a 300 I would need to mod it highly, since the machine holds me back. I need the shocks, cuz mine always bottom out making me slower. I need the power to cuz I can go faster in places where Im not. And I need the torque to get going. So I believe shocks and pipes and the minor mods are needed but I agree with you too cuz people say you need a 500 big bore just to keep up.

You dont need to get all those mods. If you are planing to race mx adding alittle width and shocks would help. Although most of the stuff isnt needed. I race xc with my 400ex and the rider is the most important thing. I race in the open b class and the other weekend i spun out and got passed buy a guy on a 250ex ex and actually had alittle trouble getting around him in the tight woods. Also there was a open A class rider on a stock 400. Practice and keep yourself and your machine in shape and you will do fine.

I suggest ac nerfs over the dg. The dg is heavy and bends easier. It can also scrape your frame where they attach in the front.

Just get your A** out on the track and start racin, you have every thing you need for now if your starting out. Buy stuff as you go, that is the best thing to do. Don't try to buy every thing at once cause you probly can't afford it unless your rolling in money and don't know what to do with it, then do what ever the hell you want, but don't be dissiponted when you get beat cause you have all that money in your bike and don't have enough experence to ride it!
Hey Chris isn't this picture normally what you see when me and you ride,,,,,,,,,a picture of my rearend,,,,ha haaaaaaaaa..Hey I'm gonna call tommy at eastview next week and see if maybe we can come back down there...

OK, 300exman
I have a 300ex and a 250r! Before I had my 250r i was JUST like you and was planning on racing and I already push the bike to the limits (stock). I spend alot of money on crap i didnt need and now i wish i wouldnt have spend all dat money for nothin! If you got $1500 This is what I would STRONGLY reccomend to buy!
#1. Dura Blue +4 Axle $300
#2. Front Wheel spacers & works TR shocks $400
#3. Renthal Bars & grips(honda bars = SOF) $75
#4. Gripper seat $65
#5. Rear Works shock $450
#5. Wiseco 11:1, .80 over, piston & bore $150
#6. 14 tooth sproket $40

Why exactly would you want to extend your rear 4 inches without widening the front?
stocktires

Widening the rear does alot! My 300ex has a +6 axle and stock width front end and I LOVE it!!!! You can take a corner at full throttle in 4th gear!!!!! I'll be soon getting wheel spacers for it though!!! I like the front wheel spacers on my R, but i recently bought +2 chrome a-arms and works shocks. cuz i bottomed out all the time with the stock shocks and spacers. And broke my wrist (BADLY) But if you look back at the list i put down front wheel spacers! and works shocks that need to be set up for +2 a-arms!

the 250r wheel spacers will work on your 300ex, they have the same bolt pattern (along with the 400ex, 250x (later years), and 250ex.

I still havent figured out why you would want to pay 10-15 for a parking brake block off????? Fill me in here a lilttle bit guys.

Parking brakes are added weight for a motocrosser and they are useless to us we don't need them and don't care for them so we buy parking brake block off to get rid of them.

i took off my parking break bc i hated the clutch lever on it stock and i didn't like how if u adjusted it wrong it wore out ur brakes faster so its gone.

I hate to get back on the subject at hand but you don't have to spend alot of money to set up to race. I have seen alot of stock machines race and do quite well. Have you decided what kind of racing you want to do? There are several flat tracks in your area, Eldon, Signornory and I think Fairfield. I won my championship at Signornory (sorry about the spelling) There were other bike set up better then mine, but it takes a good rider.
Don't forget it's not a job it is for FUN! :D
