Differences between sportrax 400ex and trx400ex?

im trying to decide which 1 to get, could sum1 tell me some of the differences?

the trx's have reverse, and what rico said is true. the red ones go alot faster than the yellows. i wish i got a got a red.

hm, so they're basicly the same thing beside the trx looks better and has reverse but costs a little more... so its basicly a look factor and the reverse. and is reverse a must have? because i may not be able to get a trx around here :( will probly have to get the sportrax..and they both got the same motor and suspension??.

well its your opinion that the trx looks better. reverse is nice but not needed.

Theres also the gearing factor in the 05's, or "TRX", its slower out of the box due too new gear ratio's. Nothing that a sprocket change wouldnt help though. The TRX is 18 lbs heavier, not a big deal to me... And those ugly plastics...

I think all the model years have the same name trx400ex. Just the newer ones say sportrax instead of fourtrax on the seat. and the 05 has the headlights cut out and a hood put on, reverse, and different gearing.

Put it this way, TRX have been around since 99, My manual says 1999 Honda TRX400ex But the seatcovers are diffrent, now either u want a 99-04 400ex, or you want an 05 with reverse, U can change our low/top end speeds with sprocket changes, 15-38t is stock on the 400s i know at leat till 04.

all honda quads are trx models because if you take off the rear plastics and seat on any honda quad it has a sticker on the subframe dat says trx (wat ever the model is) on it on it the only diff now is dat the 05's got reverse whice is realy not needed and diff plastics and graphics the red sportrax models are the fastest ones i raced my friend wit his 05 trx400ex and tore him up dat 11 or w.e pounds make a diff in top and bottom end

:huh I don't think he was serious when he said red are faster cuase the only difference is the plastic. :o And the new ones have different gearing becuase they have reverse so they had to change the transmission all around so for all you who beged for reverse you got it but it cost some speed.

lol i wasnt serious at all. ive been riding for such a long time and i am smart enough to know that the color of plastics do not change anything. its just like saying adding stickers adds horsepower. :blah:

In my opinion, it kind of hard to say the difference. TRX's having reverse is a lie, because I have and '04 TRX400EX thats doesn't have reverse. The thing is, the manufacturer tag says TRX but then the factory stickers on the side of the quad say Sportrax 400EX. I think though that there really is no real difference. It may be coincidental that some year's TRX's have reverse, where other year's Sportrax's don't, or whatever, but all in all, it's the same bike.

Oh and BTW, what has been said about the '05 is true. It uses a 14 tooth front sprocket where the earlier years use a 15 tooth. So an '05 will have more low end, but the earlier ones will have more top end. There is a whole thread about top speeds, but simply put, an '04 will do 67mph, where an '05 will do about 55.

And just so we are all clear, red ones are way faster than yellow ones :macho haha, just kidding :devil:

Here's the thing...... Yellow is obviously faster because I ride yellow, my wife rides red and I kick her *ss every time! ;)

whatever guys, its just the top speed. whats most important is how fast it can get up to that top speed :D i think they just changed the name of the 400s from sportrax to trx cuz they want to keep the same name as the 450r. sportrax 450r sounds wierd. trx 450r sounds better. IMO. kinda like the KFX 400 and the V force 700 they changed that to KFX 700. whatever guys, just as long as we all ride Hondas:)

i have recently gotten a trx 400ex 2005. i like it alot and its got plenty of low end torque. the top end however is slower but it depends on where your riding. me personally loves the new trx and reverse feature. mine is red and black and runs great any questions aim -stjpimpin and my e-mail is maniapimp@yahoo.com

i searched, but couldn't find any exact info, from what i've read...

what are the major differences between the 99 and 04 years? just colors? seats? i have a new seat cover that says " Fourtrax " and my friend says its for a different model (not 400ex).

also, what else can be different between the years? are there any changes to the build? diffferent welds? frame geometry? i know the 05+ have reverse and different headlights...but i'm mainly asking about the 99-04 MY.

the 99-2000 had a seat cover that says fourtrax. the stickers also changed on the 01 - 04. the colors were the same for all years until they come out with black in 05. you could get yellow or red until 05. the only differences were the seat cover and the stickers on the side.

its just a name change when i bought my 99 it was fourtrax and in like 2003 they changed it to sportstrax. the utility quads kept fourtrax.

if your a good enough rider reverse is never ever needed. cause you should never get into a situation where you would have to use it anyway.
