I haven't ever heard of it but i just found out that my local honda dealership carries ktm now so i guess i'll check it out. I have 2 friends with ktm motorcross bikes and they're bad a**! KTM comes with brand name parts too.

It would be nice tho. Last summer I rode a KTM 520exc, it was a nice smooth motor. Easy to control but very fast.

With the higher power demands people are asking for today, I think we will see more hybrids like this. I don't think that we see KTM build a production quad. Not that I don't welcome the compition, I think some companies still have that 250r lawsuit in the back of their minds.
As far as the KTM 520 goes it looks like an awsome bike, it sounds like it will give the yzf 426 and cr450f motors a run for their money!:D
Oynot,,it says in the write up on it that it has more power than a 426,,but didn't mention the crf450. Like you said it's a hybrid built for open classes,,,I don't expect to see any Pro's run it in the GNC's..but yes it is a very sweet bike..them motors are tall and skinny ain't they??

we have a ktm 520 here and a cr450f here and the 450f beats it in a drag race... i also agree 100$ that thing will never see production and look it cost 20,000$ + to make it

It Depends on what motor they use. If they use the 520SX(4-speed) then it would rip,but in the dirtbike form, the CRF smokes it in drgas, but now the 520E/XC,thats a ripper,it has a wide ratio 5-speed,and it is scary fast.
Yes Rico, those motors are Tall and Skinny.
That motor is defintly better than a Carptor motor,no doubt about it.
Now if we are talking about speed here, the best 4-stroke motor to put in a quad, would be the new Husky 650 motor,it does 99mph stock!!! Also the XR650R is a ripp snorting motor also,it will fly, when de-restricted.
it is owned by rath racing...in a town called hutchinson minnesota....35 miles north of where i live....i can't believe a quad that sweet is sooo damn close too me...i am goin to some races in june and it will be there....can't wait to see it!!!!!!

Speaking of big motors in quads, what ever happened to that quad with the Vor motor in it, that was on the DirtWheels cover, awhile ago, or was that just more computer trickery. Seems like everyone wants to make a prototype but no one wants to produce, Kawasaki with their exciting return to racing only building like 2 or 3 bikes, Husaburg's Enforce4, I heard that was some unfortune business pollitics though, and Yamaha's disappointing Raptor they should have just copied the pro's, YZ426 in a quad.

OK, Mental, the VOR quad will probably come out around winter 2002 or winter 2003, and with a Tag of $12k, but i bet its gonna blow the Moto440 away!!

I understand completely that the KTM quad is only the product of one man wanting to find out what the motor would be like in a quad, cool idea. I was a little harsh describing the Raptor as dissappointing after all Yamaha is finally offering something other than the Banshee. I just perfer Honda but, to each his own.

I love how Dirt Wheels always has there cover say "We ride the New Honda 450f Quad!", when it's just a custom built race quad. Then these kid's come up to me at school saying "I'm gonna sell my (insert junky quad or ancient 80cc MX bike) and buy the new VOR quad and be sooooooo much faster then you!" I just laugh...

Yes it's good to see so many have bliss in ignorance isn't it. I personally would like to some put an XR 600 motor in a 400EX frame(maybe.... someday)
id put xr 650r motor, i was reading a dyno chart with the stock xr 600 and it said 34 horespower thats only 6 more than a 400ex
i hate when kids come up and go im gettin that f-in bomboooder 670 2 stroke and ill kick yer *** wit it:rolleyes:

I love the people that tell me if I were to get a 250R and no matter how much I built it their stock Banshee would beat it because "My buddy's got a 250R, he has it built he's got a pipe, and I beat him" , wow a pipe that isn't even half of what I'ld do if I got another R. That and straight lines don't mean a whole lot to me.

I saw that KTM at Red Bud this weekend, sweet bike. It has a real bark to it, you always know where on the track it is.

I also saw the Rath/Merrill Extreme KTM 520 quad at Red Bud. It was right in front of me at tech inspection. I also watched it on the track and it looked pretty nice.
I did notice that it sat kinda high though, compared to other quads.

i wouldn't build the 520 anyways... u can't race it in any pro races bc its over the 440 limit... just like the 450f u have to put a smaller piston and sleeve in it to go under the cc limit on the engine...

i now what you mean guys i hate it when they tell me junk like that my friend not really a firend told me that he has a stok rm80 that top out at 110! then i asked what he has and i said in your dreams so we got together that saturday with my 400ex and was whippin him all weekend that kid never has challenged me since and i know that ktm will never make into production the wayu it is if it does i bet that suzukis z-400 and the 400ex will beat it or stay right up with it you know cause i know that the factory model will not come with all the junk they put on there like the axis shocks and houser steering stem and stuff it will have to be able to make money for them! not coating them 25,000 buks just to pop one out and how many people are going to shell that out when they can get a good moto 440 and only pay 10,000 with a more advanced engine? dirtwheels i love the magazine but the are just a load bull****ters!:devil soory but its the truth sure any 20,000 quad will be a threat to a 5,500 quad! cmon that like saying a brand new 1.5 million dollar tank will beat a .22 there are just to many differeces!thats just my opoinon!:huh :huh
