i want every ones opinion on a crf450 powered quad or a YZF426 powered quad. what would it cost and such? would it be worth all the trouble? would it be better to buy a 250r that is already set up? i will probably never go pro. i mostly just race with the guys on some private tracks. ui might hit a couple of local money races. what do you all think?:macho :macho

It would just by a 250r that's been fixed up.Just look for cracks everywhere in the frame. The first thing I do when I look at a used quad is look at the pegs, the gear shifter, and the the engine to see how much it is wore down. For example if the pegs are dull. But an older bike like a 250r I guess just look for cracks. ;)

If you are going to get a 250r get one with an aftermarket frame. If you race hard you are going to get one eventualy anyway.

Unless ur racing the nationals competively dont spend the 20k to build a crf or yzf quad.
All you need is a 250r with a pipe, aarms, shocks, and a wider axle for play racing.

If you've got the money...go for it. that would be awsome to build one of those quad's up...but the only problem is that i dont' have $20k+ sitting around my house.

i agree w/ nj300ex. My R has a stock frame and its constantly cracking! Maybe one with a gusseted frame! Not a stock frame! You will buy one if your gonna be racing hard! Any frame is good except LSR! Those 4-strokes r a waste of money! you wont be able to stop modding the R when u get it! You'll love it! I just rode mine yesterday after 2 months of waiting and riding my 300ex (broken collar bone). I was coming around a corner, sliped the clutch and the front end came up as i was turining. went upon one wheel. Looked like a pro! You wont be dissapointed in an R! But it might take u a while to get it dialed in!

i think i am going to go with the limited edition Walsh 440 Race Craft Cannondale. it is a complete top to bottom race quad. i like the 4 stroke power with the 2 stroke attitude they have, and with the gull wing Walsh +3 a-arms and PEP shocks. it looks to be an awsome quad. $11890 is not cheap but you have to pay to play.
what do you all think?? good idea or what? i dont want to deal with the constant maintence required with an R.
I say go for it,,but since you live in KY,,were gonna meet up sooner or later and I wanna ride the sucka..:D

well if you didnt want to spend that much, you can build a yzf426 400ex stock frame with everything else mods for $8000. if you want more info, i can talk to a guy that can hook you up with all the information needed to build one of these. THEY FLY!
Rico- What page is the Walsh Cannondale on? I looked all through the magazine but could not find it.

i got the info on the Walsh cannondale from the ATV Sport mag. april 2002 copy, page 29. i have seen the performance of the stock quads and they a really impressive. i think with the Walsh mods they will trully rip!!!
if i can get it worked out, Rico we will have to hook up so you can give it a shot.
WiredCinqmars let me know about the YZF426 for $8000. i would like to check it out. i was looking to buy a 400ex framed YZF with a complete roll design suspension fo $11000. i thought that was cheap. this $8000 dollar deal you talk about is it a complete deal of do i have to source everything out?? let me know.

Go for the Walsh 440. that sounds like a totally awsome quad. and if you think about it...your getting a complete race ready quad for about 12G's. that's a good price considering most others end up being in the $20000 range. and since the MOTO 440 cannondale is around 13G's....i think it's a steal...you get top of the line, walsh EVERYTHING, they are gonna be some sweet quads....good luck with it.

if i can get it all worked out i think that is what i will do.
that is one CHUNK-O-CHANGE though.
Mikes little brother raced a Walsh C-dale in the 4 stroke C class at Macon. He won both motos. The gas tank was custom and it had Walsh a-arms, swingarm, and steering stem. It also used 250r plastic. It was the best looking C-dale I have ever seen. I have not gotten my ATV Sport yet for some reason. Also one of the guys I ride with has/had a 400ex/y426 conversion(he also has a Moto440). He told me he sold his yz. He was asking 11g. I wonder if it is the same person you talked superraptor. I would recommend the Walsh C-dale because my Walsh bike is nothing but top of the line quality. Plus Mike is a really nice guy and will help you with anything you need. After seeing the Walsh C-dale at Macon I almost want to sell my bike and get one.

No way can you build a yzf in a 400ex frame for 8k. You will spend atleast 8k for the rolling chasis if you want everything except the frame aftermarket.

Call rocky ridge racing,,the owner is building himself a yz426 in a 400ex chassis right now,,he would know the amount for it..

I saw the Walsh/ cannondale, with pep zps shocks, walsh +3 gull a-arms, walsh swingarm, 250 plastics, nerfs, tag bars, it was the nicest quad i have ever seen. All custom from Mike Walsh- costs about 13,000 to buy it
but it looks like it would be worth it

the one he has advertised threw Columbia Motor Sport has all that you listed but has the canondale plastic still on it. $11800 out the door. not a bad price for a race quad.

Rico i am not talking about the cost of putting the engine in the frame, but the cost of all the aftermarket chasis parts. To build a quad from the ground up cost $$$. The cannodale is the best bet for 11800. I can not see why anyone would want a moto.
