2006 GNCC Series Round #10 "The Stomp" Yadkinville NC Afternoon coverage

Round #10 of the GNCC series was back in full swing bringing the racers to Yadkinville North Carolina. This area is wine country and local tours were available for those interested in seeing the vineyards.

This is also Nascar's heartland, and it was a mix of atv, bike and car haulers located in just about every parking lot one could find. There were no nascars entered in the world of XC racing but the quads were every bit as clean and ready as the cars you would find on pit row of Charlotte Speedway!

Racers, friends and crew busily set up thier pits and chatted about everything from racing to politics. I would say that deversity has hit the GNCC series and all manner of people are now involved as the sport continues to grow.

Utility Mod rider Jim Stack has one class win this season but has been running the WPSA series and getting himself noticed infront of millions on ESPN.

The riders were called to the starting line which was on the powerline this year. I took a vantage point that would allow me to catch the racers as they crested the hill and rounded the first turn. Santo Derisi awaits his time to do battle at the Stomp.

After the National anthem was sung, the engines were warmed up and it was time to go racing! TEN SECONDS blared across the loudspeakers and in a flash the flag was waved it was time for this round to get underway.

I could not see the start but the thunder from behind the hill told me that they were coming, and there wasn't anything slowing them down

I picked out Chris Borich in my lens and it appeared he was getting the better hand on the field as he headed for the first turn.

I should have known better then to think I could get away with focusing my attention on Borich as Ballance railed to the inside and headed for turn two taking the holeshot and the race lead.

Brent Sturdivant gets out of shape at the start but would face a DNF on the day when his engine locked up.

Pro AM launched off the line and it was #31 Taylor Kiser getting the holeshot
