lube the cable......if its still hard then replace it. Ive got an 03 and had to replace the cable recently so it maybe something to look into....esp if its never been lubed.

adjust it to maximum slack and disconnect it, then spray your choice of penetrating lube down inside the cable, pushing and pulling the cable at the same time...wd-40, pb blaster, liquid wrench, etc...makes a huge difference

I put a new cable and a avs lever on mine and it works great now.

A massive $150.00 and I never thought I’d pay that much for a lever but after squeezing quite a few levers and when i crashed and broke the stock one I went ahead and got a good one.
And I like it a lot better. It's not as soft as a hydrologic lever but I think for me they are too soft. The avs can be adjusted for how far you reach to grab the lever and it has a handy knob so you can adjust it on the fly. No more tools.
