2006 GNCC Series Round #6 - Show Time - ATV Race Coverage

Seymour, MO - With overcast skies and chilly temperatures, the Youth ATV race was set to begin at 8AM, and there were 50 youth riders on the starting line ready to shine at the Showtime! GNCC.

They youth racers raced on a shortened course of less than a few miles long, but it was filled with plenty of obstacles from hill climbs, rocks, tight trails, and high speed straight-aways to provide a great mix for these up and coming riders.

On the starting line, Danny Fowler tried to tighten the new chain as much as possible because the chain guide broke off right before the start of the race.

The 90 Prod Mod (11-15) was the first class off the line, and Matthew Harris grabbed the on his Kasea with Cheyne Gravley quickly moving in to take over the lead after they headed into the woods while the class leader, Walker Fowler was off to a mid pack start.

Kyle Riley would grab the Holeshot in the 90 Prod Mod (8-10) Class, and he would quickly begin to walk away from the rest of 9 riders in his class including the extremely fast Michael Ferraro.

Jack Ramsey jumped out into the lead in the 90 Stock Ltd (11-15) Class, but it wouldn’t take long before Brandon Boso would claim the lead and developed nearly a minute lead by the end of the first lap, which he continued to extend upon for several laps

In the 90 Stock Ltd, Austin Timmons was the first rider around turn one, but he had plenty of company with Tyler Seiverd right behind him. Seiverd would make the pass and take over the lead with Timmons right behind him at the end of the first lap with Timmons regaining the lead in lap two before Kyle Heller worked his way through the pack and passed the pair battling in the front in lap three where he stayed till the checkered flag.

The final class off the line was the 70 Production (6-11) Class, and the class leader, Michael Mussi wasted no time taking over the lead where he stayed for the remainder of the race, but it wasn’t uneventful as he clipped a root during the race, which sent him sailing over the bar, but he quickly remounted his ATV and was able to finish an impressive 5 laps, which was more than anyone else in the class.

By the third lap, Walker Fowler took over the lead when he made the pass on Cheyne Gravley, and he maintained the lead till the final lap of the race when bad luck struck for Fowler when a rock lodged itself in his front wheel, which sent him and his Cobra cart wheeling through the trees. Fortunately for Walker he was ok, and a spectator helped him bend his rotor, so he could resume the race still in the lead.

Within a hundred yards of the finish, Walker Fowlers chained derailed, which left him sitting while his father rushed to his aid, which was the break that Cheyne Gravely needed to regain the lead and the Overall Win after dealing with so much bad luck himself this year, which kept him out of Podium contingency several races.

Michael McAvoy was also on a mission as he charged his way through the pack picking off riders with each passing lap, and he made his move on Kara Merritt in the final lap to take over the third spot, which had everyone thinking he earned his first podium finish after a great race.
