The competitor still thrives in him, and he asked me several times what he should expect and how I thought he might do.
I tried explaining that GNCC racing is rough, its tougha nd the terrain shows no mercy on anyone, much less a person who had no use of their legs. Just finishing was a goal most new racers to this sport can expect in their first race but Bill said he thought he could do more.
So off he went into the great unknown. Having never seen a true GNCC course, never having ever raced XC at all, and having no real idea of what to expect....a hero was being born to alot of folks in his condition. I said a prayer to keep him safe and watched him ride out of sight.
