When people say horrible handling I think they are talking about it being narrow and tall, but after riding it for awhile you get use to it and you don't notice it.

thats a big machine for such a small guy. How old are you? I think you need somthing less powerful and that has better handling and is lighter. Hey, thats just my opinion. You might be an awesome rider, if you are, sure get the raptor.

well lets just say this, the raptor's handling might not be quite as good as a 400ex, but it will sure beat a blaster or 300ex by a landslide! Plus they have tons of power. I would say 400ex or Raptor. Both are top-of-the-line machines.

Although I have two 400exs, I have also owned a Raptor for one year.

I have to admit that it is easier to hop on the 400ex from the Raptor and ride than vice versa. The Raptor takes a while to get used to riding. I don't think it has as much to do with the tippiness as it does with the power. When trail riding, you can always just gas the 400ex without much hope of loosing the front-end. Try this on the Raptor at the wrong time and the front wheels lift and then you don't have your steering. I am 6'5" tall so the 400ex feels a little small to me.

You can lower the Raptor with aftermarket shocks or Durablu (sp?) lowering kits.

If you get a Raptor, I would buy a new 2002 over a used 2001.

The 400ex is more reliable. I think much of that is due to the engine output. I think you would have many more mechanical failures on the 400ex if you put a more potent engine in it.

The 400ex handles better in stock form and lands better from jumps too. The factory 400ex suspension is better than Yamaha's. If you are looking to go aftermarket, then this is all a mute point. Same if you plan to go wider with a-arm and axle mods.

    Hope this helps.

    /Jon
