newb question about 04/05 vs 06/08

Just wondering why 04/05 motors are more in demand than 06 and up motors? Is the 04/05 a better overall motor than the 06 and up model?

I still prefer the +06 top ends

they have the ability to bolt on crf parts for much better flow, and compression with factory rliability

Is it possible to bolt on a 06 and up top end on a 04/05 bot end?

04-05 have a better trans, different bore and stroke than 06+. I prefer 04-05 honestly.

    tastes great........ less filling...lol

the whats better 04/05 or +06 argument will never be settled...

its all in how you ride and what your preference is,
but yes defiantly the transmission holds up better on the 04/05

and yes the 04/05 feels like it has more torque,

but the +06 has better acceleration due to its lighter flywheel and higher compression,

again its all in what you like and are used to, if you grew up on four stokes you will like the torque of the first years, if you grew up on two stokes you will like the later years better

the gears arn't made in any different ways between the two types if gears are stressed in the +06 its because the way its putting power to them,

I personally don't mind replacing a third gear every few years to have the quad be able to be ripped out of my arms,
if you modify a 04/05 motor the gears are just as susceptible to damage as the +06.....

so in closing "tastes great" lol

I agree with DnB. And the 06 up are a little cheaper to build the motor because they already have the better carburetor

It depends on what you define as better. Swapping the FCR for the older model carb is a popular mod for XC.

I prefer the way the power comes on with an 06+ over the 04/05. Reliability wise the 05 is more reliable for your average joe because of the long skirtted piston design. Yeah the 05 had their crank bearing issues but lets face it, If its been rode at all that problem has already been taken care of at some point. That was 8 years ago lol. As far as the tranny on the 06 what exactly was the issue with them? Ive heard of guys having issues but what kind of riding was it and what exactly failed. I had 2 07's that i plum beat the piss out of in mx and had every other problem except tranny issue lol
