    How many hours?

    I have an 86 250r and it has the original top end in it. I was looking through the manual and it says to replace the piston and rings every 30 hours. Is this true or can I get by with more? The guy I bought it from said it only had 25 hours on it when I got it (it sat in storage for 14 years), and I have put about 5 or 10 hours on it so far. It has good compression, and it starts secound kick every time. Should I replace it?

    Exactly....but the piston and rings should last more than 30 hours...

    yeah...keep it....when you start losing compression....then its time for a new piston/rings

    Thanks for the replies. I still dont know what to do. I have had people tell me to replace it and I have had people tell me not to replace it. I might just replace it just to be sure.

    if you have/can find a compression gauge thing to test the compression, test it, and see if its too low. when its low, you need to replace the stuff

    Yeah...thats probably the only way to tell how much compression you have in your cylinder....it should say in the manual how many psi's should be in the cylinder
