    400ex Missing cam parts?

So I recently got a great deal on a 400ex because numberous mechanics could not get it to run. Turns out the timing was off and I got in running right away. However and hour later the timing was too tight again. Turns out the headbolt studs were stripped and the head gasket was leaking...

ANYWAYS, the camshaft also slid over and one of the lobes wore at the head. After inspecting the situation, I also noticed holes in the head at each end of the cam in which dowels or something should go in to keep the cam in place... I can't find the part number on any site(such as bikebandit.com) I'm lost please help!

There is supposed to be a dowel at each end to hold the cam in place. See the link.

Yes dowel pins go on each side of the cam bearings.

Id buy a new cam if its worn too much and put HD head studs in b/c if you helicoil them they will come out.

    Replace the cam.

When i broke a valve in my old 400ex i later found out one of the lobes were bad on the cam (im assuming thats the reason it happened)

no need to break the rings in prior, just put it together and run it. I have never had any issues.

And I would love to have hd studs but at the moment I don't want to go through all the hassle and money to do it. I know it's gunna bite me in the @$$ with the 10.8:1 piston but I'm taking my chances this time. I've also heard of many people with bore kits that haven't had a problem. We'll see how it goes.
