    Question Z-400 won't idle!?

    My friend has a Z-400. He just put a big gun slip on, CFM performance airbox, K&N filter w/outerwear and has jetted it. but the problem is that it won't idle and you have to give it a little gas when u start it or it won't start at all. when he get's it started and lets off the gas it just dies. he's tried changing the pilot jet, and messed with the needle but it hasn't helped any. does anybody know what the problem might be? We live in NY and the elevation is a couple hundred feet above sea level. thanks in advance.

    Did you try messin with the idle screw on the carb. Mine got messed up on my 400ex today so i had to fix it. It did exactly what you said. It wouldnt idle but would start if i gave it gas. Good luck.

    whats size pilot does he have in it? Does it have fresh gas?

    I might be going out on a limb here but... .did you try turning the idle screw?

    it will idle if we turn the idle screw up kinda high but he doesn't want it that high. it just won't idle like it did before he got all the mods. i'm not sure what pilot he has but he's tried a few different ones and it didn't really help.

    sounds like what my 400 did after i put the carb back together, i just adjusted the idle and its fine

    My 400ex actually idles better now with all my mods. When it was stock it wouldnt idle for s**t.

    he didn't break anything that i know of, you could still adjust the idle but it just doesn't idle like it should. it idle to high, then when u lower it, it dies.

    I know what the problem is..... IT"S A SUZUKI Dump it and get a honda. I would wait for the 450ex to come out, it's going to blow everything else apart.
