I'd definitely get on a Jeep forum. The one thing I can say for sure is the gearing in the rear diff has to match the front diff if you plan to engage 4X4 mode...but that is pretty obvious.

Best bet is to take a tape measure and measure the witdth. Look for your spring perch locations. 05 is pretty new compared to late 90's. Sometimes suttle changes are made. Chances are it will fit but def take measurements. And like 2xquad said, if your ratio is different, you will have to make the front and back the same. Why not just put a new ring in pinion kit in the one thats bad. What is bad anyway?

    Right.

Jeep cherokee is the boxy thing aka the XJ, they stopped making them in 2001. You have a jeep grand cherokee WK.

I hope you got an axle for a grand cherokee WK and not a regular cherokee-I dont think it will fit if you did.

I doubt you needed a whole axle, probably just needed a ring and pinion as already noted. Hope you got the correct axle with the right ratio.
