    The 2007 model year?

    What are the ins & outs and ups & downs of this particular model year.

    Good year to buy or not?

    This is the best year to get if you are buying one used. It already has the oil mod done to it and has most of the updates that they have done. You will be happy with it for sure.

    yeah. the Oil Squirter mod was the latest big update they did on them. The 07's also have a bigger front master cylinder and rear drilled rotor. not much else changed from 07-09 on the Standard's.

    Yeah, if I got one the whole point would be to have a carburetor.

    Now that I have an XC guy chiming in, let me state what my intention would be with it....

    Here is what I have in mind... it would be an XC machine...

    Skids
    Tires
    Beadlocks
    Stabilizer
    Suspension work
    Pipe
    Filter or intake
    Trail Tech heavy flywheel and/or Rekluse

    And maybe whatever that cam retard deal you guys do?

    TIGHT track and trail machine... want no complications.


    Is that going to be enough or do I need to do a lot more I don't know about? Anything I am missing?

    How long will these go between rebuilds with a fresh supply of clean air and oil?

    dont worry about fly wheel weight, get a rekluse, y our list looks good should be a solid quad. if you have any extra cash laying around after you get all this id look at precision clamps or flexx bars jmo. and eventually you'll prob need a arms after the stockers bend or wear out

    Well fudge... I found this model... and was more thinking about making sure it was a good model year to get.... and I really didn't think the whole thing through real well.

    Here's what I didn't take time to think of up front.... this machine is at a dealer.... and to get it I want and need to be able to TRADE.

    However, this is a really good deal.... and I don't really see too well where there would be much motivation on the dealer's end to make a trade on it.... hard to see where they can make any money on it... because I think it is priced at cost...

    If they take my trade, they go upside down on the deal for how ever long it take them to sell off my trade.

    See what I mean. Probably not going to work out.

    for a quad to be an XC quad, you need 3 things. 6-ply tires all around, a stabilizer, and suspension. i do not care what anyone says, you dont need 20 grand to go racing in the woods. I did it for a year and a half on a stock bike and did just fine.

    intake on the Yamaha's is a good idea. dont need an exhaust, i dont have one.

    as far as protection, a skid plate in the rear is a good idea. or you can go with the separate guard set-up like a lot of guys have done.

    as far as Rekluse/Flex bars, i will never have either on my machine. I have ridden several quads with both, and they are definitely not my taste. i do have Precision clamps on mine.

    Very true statement.

    I too have tried the flex bars and they sort of weirded me out. But then I am very easily disturbed by certain 'sensory' type changes.

    I like to feel very in-touch with my machine. Don't like flex bars. Don't like MX boots anymore either since I haven't worn them in so long. They make me feel out of touch with the pegs and I haven't found the right pair with the right sole... Don't like certain goggles or helmets either... some diminish my view too much or block more sound than I'm comfortable with.

    Very finicky.


    I thought I might like a Rekluse or a flywheel weight though. I've imagined the Rekluse to be like an aggressive auto-clutch, but with manual override. I think if I could get it adjusted right and retain engine braking pretty well I'd be OK with it.

    But flywheel weight or Rekluse because both 450's I have owned so far have been rather stall happy... loving the revs and clutch slipping... and frankly lots of spinning.

    I think the old YFZ was over-build for woods... would have made I better MX motor I thought.

    The KFX... well I will just shut up...

    yeah i am pretty picky as well.

    The standard YFZ likes to be revved, thats where the real power is on those bikes. but, i honestly have no problems with stalling on mine. i get asked all the time if i have problems in tight stuff and my answer is always no. i can just about ride a whole race without using the clutch, and not stall it.

    but, it all depends on what your comfortable on and what you like.
