02 Kodiak Pull start

I replaced the pull start on 02 400 Kodiak. However the compression from the motor makes it very difficult to pull. This is a new to me ATV so I have never tried to pull start. The electric start works perfect but would like a back up. Is this normal for a Kodiak 400. Thanks for any info.

They can be hard to pull but not so hard that you can't pull it. I've been pulling ours and sometimes it will catch and almost yank your arm off!
