if not, try this.

build a floating dock using 55 gallon drums underneath to keep it floating.
tie a rope across the river so you can pull yourself from one side to the other. make a couple of cheesy ramps to help get on & off the "barge" on either side.

i am with 3punksdad on this one. that sounds like a good idea
