I have a '99 sportsman 500, I know a guy selling a showroom condition 2008 king quad 750 AXI for $5000! I like my sportsman but I drove his and it is smoother, has more power, torque etc. Should I grab this thing and move up now.? I mostly travel tight technical trails and dont go fast often.

Theres no doubt you should. The king is a GREAT quad that does everything good unlike a lot of other utilitys that shine in one area. Add a vdi and watch that thing go.
