    Help with lens

    I just bought my girlfriend a Canon Rebel XSI for X-mas and I want to get a better zoom lens. We will mainly use the camera for XC races. I dont want to spend $1K for the L series quit yet but just something that she can practice with before race season begins. I would really consider a good used lens but not sure which one?
