87-92 has more power (has a powervalve) and parts are more readily available for it. New plastics, seat cover and pipe will bring u up to almost a grand in the bike. I just got an all original 92 w/ a perfect motor, orig. plastics for $1,000 2 days ago. It starts right up, looks good and rips. All it needs is new front wheel bearings.
I don't think that 85 is a great deal but tough to say w/o seeing it. I would hold off or offer him $250 and go from there. Take the stator cover off and grab the flywheel. If you can move it up and down, crank bearings are shot... leave it alone for that price then!! (Don't ask me how I learned that one!) The economy sucks and it's a buyers market.... people are looking to unload thses things!

disagree, no plastic, broke pipe im sure there is other stuff wrong with it. 300 is a good starting point you can always go up.

you can easily spend 800-1500 getting it right.

It's a tough call Im looking at a 85 now for 150 and he has it all tore down and he doesn't have a cylinder and piston or plastics everything else is all there... I'll find out tomorrow... Last year I got a 85 that was trashed for 200 bucks..
