Unhappy yamaha 660 grizz reverse light comes on while going forward in "H" or "L"

I have a 2004 grizzly 660, without a dout the best machine on the market the day I purchased it. 4 1/2 years later though, while driving the machine at speeds above 17 mph the reverse light comes on and the engine cuts out. If you let off throttle the "R" light goes out and engine picks back up. This problem is itermittent and is more prevalant after the bike warms up.

    reverse light

sounds to me like you could have a short in your speed sensor or meter. if your grizz is in neutral or park and revved for a few seconds then the meter picks up the rpm change but no wheel speed so it kicks on a signal light and limits the machine the light used just happens to be the reverse light. I would try those first..
