Foreman 450 rearend

Hi y'all, I'm new here and lookin for a little help. A couple days ago I was riding and heard a loud pop from the rear end of my 4-wheeler, I have a 98' honda foreman 450es.

I looked at it isn't the u-joint in the driveshaft and the I can see the ring gear turning when I look in the rear diff through the oil fill hole. So what I'm wonder is, what did I break on the axle and how do I tear in to it to find out.
