brute force issues...need help asap!! no 4wd

06 brute force 650, is, will not engage 4wd.

i put in a new switch, checked the 3 fuses which were all good. what could possibly be wrong? i ride a 400ex, so this is new to me, but our fire department needs this thing back in service asap! one other thing i noticed, the bike used to like cycle through gears or something in the tranny when you shut it off...it doesnt do that anymore. ever since it stopped doing that it wont engage 4wd. i am 99% sure its electrical...

    Dude,

Check and replace if required your speedo sensor. it will NOT switch to 4x4 without it. If that's OK then the only other thing it can be is your accuator that will set you back 235.00

As far as the cycling threw the gears thing goes I beleive that is the belt tentioner (at least that is what the dealer told me it in on mine whenever I turn it on or off you can hear it work). As far as trhe 4wd sytem not working though I would just take it to the dealer, make it there problem, and since you said it belongs to fire dept. I'm sure they would expedite the service and possibly @ a cute rate.

CHECK UNDER THE REAR FENDER ON THE RIGHT SIDE BY THE FUEL FILL IN THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS, YOU WELL SEE A LITTLE BOX ALL TAPED UP, CUT IT OUT AND SOLDER ALL THE WIRES BACK TOGETHER EI WHITES TOGETHER, AND BROWNS TOGETHER. ITS A COMMOM PROBLEM ON KAWI'S. HOPES THIS HELPS.

    4wd

There is also one of these taped up boxes (buss connector) on the wiring harness above the right front wheel. Cut it apart and solder the wires on it together matching the colors. This will fix a bunch of odd electrical problems with the brute.

06 and older have a buss connector. you will need to remove the rear fender. However I had the same no 4x4 and found that the fuse was good but the connector under the fuse was bad! So remove the fuse box (1 bolt) and unplug it to check it out.
