    rings! help

What rings go where? and how do they go does it matter where the gaps are? Does the bigger ring go on top or middle? (its not thicker but wider and darker)

The mark on the ring goes up. Usually it is a T stamped on one end. The oil rings go on the bottom, then the dark one, and the chrome one goes on top. Make sure they are right side up.

Make the gaps staggered, so like all of the gaps are on different sides. Don't line up the gaps.

You also should check ring end gap. I don't have any specs handy but they have got to be on the web somewhere or someone more helpful can chime in. The way you check the end gap is put the ring alone into the cylinder push it down a little with the top of the piston (to make sure that it is aligned in the bore correctly) and measure the gap with a feeler gauge. When the rings heat up they expand and if the ring gap is to small it will cause problems. Like someone already said, stagger the ring gaps when you put it together, compression ring gaps opposite of each other (left and right) and upper and lower oil rings staggered front and back.

yah the shop will only bore the cylinder to specs of the piston, they wont mess with your ring gap unless you ask them to. proly have to give them the specs too
