The stock scramblers are pretty mild for the dunes. I would recommend a hi-rev cdi box a clutch kit ,pipe and air-filter. This will make your quad hit much harder off the bottom and pull much higher revs on the top. Be sure you get your pipe and clutch mods from the same builder so they will be matched together. You don't want a clutch designed for low end power and a hi rev power pipe. Hetrick Racing makes a power-up kit for the Polaris that has everything you need. I used it on my son's Predator a couple years ago with great results.

Exactly what he said. Hetrick power up kit makes a huge difference in the dunes. After the power up kit you can then run some 18" skat Trak Gliders for paddle tires and he should be able to follow you almost anywhere then.
