A lot of people use a 416 kit, cam, head porting, and a carb on the 400ex . These mods make a big difference in performance

I had a 416 and loved it. I could beat many of the 440's on the track. They 450r carb is a good option. Either that or a keihin fcr. Ive heard the 450 carb is easier to tune but ive never had any trouble from my fcr.

I just did the 416 myself. I enjoy more midrange power so I coupled my wiseco piston with a stage 1 hotcam. You don't really need a "kit" of any kind being that a 416 is done using a standard overbore 87mm size piston. There's a million cams out there as well as pistons. A stage one hotcam wouldn't be my first choice for MX but a stage 2 or 3 would work for you. You'll need a piston, oversized gasket kit, a cam and your cylinder bored at a minimum. On a personal note I wouldn't worry about porting the head quite yet. A lot of money for little gain IMO.

Talk to Colby@C&DRacing about the parts if you need a place to start. I bought my parts from Honda of Troy and RMATV.

i have a 416. a weisco 11:1 piston, stage 2 hotcam and port and polished head and a 5 angle vavle job, with the stock carb, K&n filter and airbox lid. also with a full fmf exhaust. i can stay right beside a 450 with a pipe and filter no prob on a starght strecth, and in the trails i can lave him without even thinking about it, and he has more riding experience then me. IMO go with the set-up you are thinking about except get a stag 2 cam. you won't be disapointed
YES ITS FAST AND NO YOU CAN'T RIDE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had such good luck with Wiseco that I've never tired any other but the JE and Ross pistons are supposed to be a bit lighter.
