    400ex go faster

I want to make my 400ex go faster. I want to do the little mods (no big engine work )because im going to make it a 416 this summer. So what mods can I do to make it accelerate better and go faster without big engine mods?

do you want it "faster" or "quicker"?
    "faster" refers to top speed.
"quicker" refers to time it takes to reach top speed
I state this because some people get the two mixed up. The only way to make the quad faster is to
    1. increase rpm limit
    2. increase teeth on front or decrease teeth on rear sprockets
    3. increase rear tire diameter

These are all pretty easy to accomplish, but in order to do this, you first must build up some extra hp to handle the heavier load

well, if you don't want to pull the motor apart, there are a few things you can do. First, get a good pipe. Since you are planning on doing the 416 thing this summer, keep that in mind when looking for a pipe. With the pipe, get a jet kit, K&N and outerware. Second, you can get you a degree key. If you don't know, it replaces the stock woodrift key on the crankshaft. It advances the timing by 6 degrees. From what i'm told, it works pretty good! But, don't throw the stock key away. The advanced key is NOT to be used on built motors...ONLY STOCK! If you use the advance key on a built motor, it wil create too much heat and cause a possible melt down.

When you do decide to open up the motor, you might want to think hard about saving up a few extra hundred bucks and get you a FCR 39mm. Most will agree that it adds hella good gains!
