Why are gas caps so expensive????

Geez, all I need is a gas cap for my son's 50. Why on earth are these stupid chunks of threaded plastic $20 - $25 and up!

I noticed that the cap from my Briggs and Stratton mower fits nicely - I can get one of those for about $4. That must be vented, even though there is no hose right? Can anybody comment on using that instead?

as long as it is vented some way in the cap you should be cool.

i know i'm reviving a dead thread but i'm pretty sure the hose off the gas cap is there so if someone flips it and is pinned underneath it it doesn't leak gas all over
