    new clutch maybe?? i'm stumped

    Can any1 tell me why would your clutch be hard to shift while the engine is running and you can't find nuetral but once you kill the engine you can go thru every gear like butter and hit nuetral no problem? any help is appreciated! this is happening on '02 400ex. thanks

    are you saying that the clutch lever is hard to pull or the transmission is hard to shift?

    hard to kick shift! when its in 1st its hard as hell to shift up with my foot. but when i kill the engine its just like butter when i shift. its really wierd. thats why i'm so confused

    Sounds like your clutch is dragging. First step is to make sure the cable is adjusted properly. You shouldn't have more that 3/4" of lever freeplay as measured from the end of the lever. If you have too much the clutch won't fully disengage when the lever is pulled in all the way. 3/8" to 3/4" is the spec.
