    Honda rancher shifting problems help

I'm new to the board . I found this site while searching for a cure for a problem my 350 rancher has . Any help would be great.
it's a 2004 350 2 wheel drive honda rancher . No electric shift. When I use reverse and try to shift back into 1st gear it just won't go it stay's in neutral. If I push down on the shifter slightly i can then up shift to 1st. I have also been just cruising in gear and it will slip into a neutral Like in between gears state. it's done that in 1st and 4th gear . Does anyone know what could be wrong ?
Is there anything I can do to get me through memorial day weekend & fix it after ? I don't have time to fix it right now & have a trip planned . Thicker oil ? anything that won't actually hurt the bike?

    Please I need help Guys
