I can't help you technically with your problem but I'm asking you, whom will be riding the quad? If it's someone under 5'5" or so then I don't see them fitting as well on a larger chassis i.e. 400EX than say maybe a Blaster or 250X/300EX.

Given you're talking about an 83cc engine, I'm assuming it's for a child so that's why I mention the smaller chassis.

yeah i agree because the 300ex frame wieghs in at 375 wet with engine take off 100 pounds you got 275pounds around there with a 80cc engine pushin it if you wanted it to fly maybe you should get a trx 90 frame that would fit great and it would be fast because its light thats my opinoin also i know many people that do this for racing instead of using the four stroke engine but it is possible to use a 300ex frame if you want even a 400ex frame would any thing can fit any thing just with some work thats all

Blaster frame ..... I had a kx250 motor in a blaster frame and that thing was insanly fast. Just alittle hard to control because of the width of the bike. But with an 80 motor i think a blaster frame would be pretty decent size.
put it this way....im too fast for you

the 300ex frame and the trx90 frame a VERY close in actual size, smae with the blaster. the blaster chassis is the heaviest of those 3.

i would agree that the size of the rider will play a HUGE role in what chassis to use. i have seen some riders on 450/400 hybrids (85cc powered) that were obviously having issues handling the larger size of the quad.
