    rear brake master cylinder problem

I've put a new rebuild kit in my brake master cylinder and also got a brand new 450r caliper. Heres my problem...when I push down hard on the brake pedal the brakes work fine, but when I push softly or slowly, the brake pedal just goes all the way down and doesn't hold pressure. When the pedal goes all the way down, I can see brake fluid shooting up in the resevoir like there's no cap on the resevior. Any ideas? I dont really feel like buying a new master cylinder cuz I just spent $25 on a rebuild kit. thanks
