Are you talking about the XR650R or the XR650L? Two completely different bikes, two completely different engines.

XR650R (water cooled) can put out decent power.. but it's really a torque monster. It won't compete with the 450r's both in mostly stock trim.

I'd love to see one made into a short rod, pancake piston, destroked revving machine to see what HP numbers you can get.

my geuss is a 650r put out a similar peak number as a crf450, but with a much broader torque range. it may be a little lower, but IMO the smoother power would be worth it
    Planning a comeback...

Yea I should requalify my response.
I had seriously looked at putting an XR650R motor into a 450r frame (back when the 450r frames were still dirt cheap) for XC, but I found that a lightly modded and ported 450r motor just seemed more capable, IMHO.

But then again.. I know my 300ex's. My 450 & 650 knowledge is very limited.

Just type in xr650r and dyno in google. In stock trim the xr650r doesn't make as much horsepower as a crf450r.

Aye.. but that engine is all about torque.

    With the HRC kit (on the bike, ATV will drop HP), it's dyno'd at 52.6hp @ 7000 rpm & 43.5 ft-lbs of torque @ 5500+/- rpm (it's at 42+ ft-lbs between 4500-6750 rpm.
