Hi, and new to the lt80

    Hi,

Just found this forum while looking for tuning tips on the lt80. I just bought an '89 and '96 from a friend. Both have been sitting for a while. I cleaned out both fuel tanks, new batteries, and they both started and run ok with the choke on only. I imagine this means they are not getting enough fuel and prolly need a carb rebuild.

If I have to pull the carb, is it worth putting in new reeds as well? Motors are stock. Stock Pipes too. What jets should I be looking at. I dont needt to run them on the edge so a little cool, fat is not a big concern.

Also would like some plug suggestions. Keep the stock filter? I am in Colorado Springs and the quads came from CA. Will my 6000 alt reqire diferent jets?

    Thanks,

    Kent

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forums.
Yes the carbs need a good cleaning. Sounds like plugged jets.
Leave the reed alone, prolly just fine.
The jets are 17.5/92.5 and will suit most any elevation w/o problems. if you want, you can put a 90 main jet in it.. The LT80 is jetted VERY fat.
    The stock filter works fine.
