    400EX- 450r conversion.

Anyone have any pics/info of a 400EX modified to run a 450r engine? I have an extra 450r engine laying around and I was wondering how involved it would be to fit it in a 400EX frame. Anybody have some info???

i think it wouldn't be bad at all

we put a yz400f motor in a 400ex and i know a 450r motor would have been much easier

It be pritty close to as hard as it is to fit a crf motor in.

    just probably make motor mounts
    mod pipe maybe?
mabey mod the frame for carb?

Does anyone know what is all used in the crf450 to 400ex conversion from the crf 450 just the motor? is it better for me to buy a whole crf 450 because alot of stuff is used from it? or just the motor to put into my 400ex can some one tell me what all ill have to buy to do this conversion and a ruff price on what it will cost to do this?

I wish it was that easy....but it's just not. Everyone's builds are different, do some research....wait...do LOTS of research. You will atleast need to weld some motor mounts, fabricate some mounts, mount the radiator, get a custom exhaust, make a new car to airbox boot, mount new electronics, and the list goes on.
A price to do all this can vary greatly. You'll need the motor, a new radiator, electronics, carb, cables, header maybe (depending on you exhaust choice), etc.

Does a trx 450 motor and a crf 450 motor have the same mounting points. i read up on the crf motor and you have to machine the swing arm and axle to get the chain to line up.

    Its not to bad.

not the best pic. But I like the way the quad handles better than my budies 450r chassis. It feels lower and more incontrol to me. on the flip side, the motor sits a little far back in the frame, which causes the quad to push a tad in the corners. But after some time you get used to it and dont event notice it.

why not sell the 450R motor and sellt he 400ex and buy a 450R?...that way theres nothing to MOD, can get any of the parts for it with ease...IMO its not worth the money inless you build it with an after market frame..other wise its just a 400ex with a hacked frame and good motor...I did a YZ426 in a 400ex...and to make it even look 100% right its going to cost way more then just getting a 4k 450r...

aftermarket parts for a 400ex are cheep because everyone is selling them off.

400ex has a lower center of gravity also.
