who wants to help me out?

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the electrical on the 80s.
A friend just dropped off an LT for me to borrow to try to get ours running, I went to remove his coil, and noticd it didn't have one, and thought that doesnt make sense. It looks like the CDI and coil are in the same box, mine has them seperate.
I'm not sure of the year of his, its purple and white, mine is a 2000 or 2001. am i going to have to swap the whole harness to make ours run? unfortunatly that doesnt help me find out whats wrong with mine. could someone please help.

Got it running, The problem was a bad ground on our bike, for some reason it didn't want to ground to the frame anymore, so we grounded it to the motor and it fired right up, it seems to run alot stronger now as well.

That's what that wire on the top/front fan cover is for.
I usually add an extra frame to motor ground.
