    Sportrax 90 Oil Change

I posted this in the under 350cc section but perhaps this is a better place for this thread.

Go to change the oil in my daughters 2003 Sportrax 90 and remove the 14mm bolt only to discover this isn't the oil drain. Out comes a 12" spring and a 3" rod with ports and a neopreme end. I reinstall the rod with the neopreme down and the small end of the spring down. Then I find the larger bolt that is the oil drain.

1 - Did I reinstall this ported rod and spring properly?

2 - What does this rod and spring do?

Its in backwards. The end of the rod with the plastic on it goes up into the motor first, then the spring with the small end going in first. This is what keeps tension on the cam chain.
