    Exclamation I Need New Sprockets

After having my 400 for 2 years the stock sprockets are worn out. The front one broke off teeth and there is only one tooth left and the back is pretty wore down.

I do not know much about sprockets and I was looking through magazines and there are like 50 different kinds. What kind should I get. I don't race or anything. I also plan on replacing the chain at the same time. So does anyone know of good sprockets and chain? And wheres the best place to buy or order from? Thanks ahead of time.

If you replace the front w/ a 14 tooth sprocket ; you will pick up a lot of acceleration. Only drawback is you will lose a little top end.

Acually I was thinking of going to a 16. I ride fast and my trails are pretty open but I think I will stick to stock. I was looking through my Rocky Mountain catalog and they have rental sprockets. Does anyone have renthal? What is the best chain to get? They also have a lot cheaper ones from "Primary Drive". There probably junk.

I bought Primary Drive sprockets from Rocky Mtn. ATV. So far, they are fine. They look exactly like the OEM stuff. I don't think you'd be disappointed in buying them. I have them on a strong running 85 ATC 250.

My Question: Anyone using a 40 or 41 tooth rear w/ the 15 on the front on a 400EX? I don't really want to drop a full tooth on the front and want something in between. Suggestions?

Well I can recommend what not to get. I bought a Sunline sprocket for my 400ex (front one). After comparing it to the stock one....the Sunline one is VERY thin....I'd look for one that is the same thickness as your stock sprocket.

    sduncan,
If they are pretty much the same as stock i think thats what i will get. I don't race or anything so i don't think i need gold teeth. For anyone else that might need sprockets hear is some prices i found.

    From Rocky Mountain
    Primary Drive front #36215 $6.99
    rear #H01-HC0-000R $14.99
The renthals cost $21.99 and $49.99. Why do they cost so much more?

I also looked up the stock parts on Service Honda. The front cost 23 and the rear 56.20.
