the raptor 50 is huge.. my 9 yr old daughter looks small on it and she rides a ktm 65 and about ready to go to cr85. 10mph is slow, my powerwheels does 10mph. the thing cant get out of its own way. like i said this thing is nowhere near its potential. my 3yr old rides his xr50 faster then the raptor will go

At 9years old I wouldn't throw any money at a 50 ,sounds like she's out grown it

BUT if you want to you cant go wrong talking to Al at Raptor 80 racing(he has 50 stuff also)

I agree my daughter had a little suzuki lt50 quad bike to learn on and then we went out and spent nearly 4 or 5 times the money on a Raptor ( just like dads big 660r) Yamaha should be ashamed of themselves.........

we got it out that w/e and put it away and took it straight back to the shop on the following monday.... I thought it must have been stuffed... they had it for weeks and then told me it was normal... my response was not very nice considering they knew she was stepping up from a lt50 she had much more fun on the suzuki 50

there are several mods for the Yamaha 50 raptor such as the modified CDI unit which is about $200 aud or $120 us but allthough they allow it to rev an extra 1000rpm it still sounds sick as though it is running with the choke on

Honestly I would never recomend any one buy with out trying just not what I have come to expect from yamaha would love to hear if anyone has found out how to bypass what ever it is they have done to restrict these bikes to such a pathetic point of taking all the fun out of riding

When we were trying to decide between the 80 and the 50 they told us speed was not that much different and gave us a smoking deal on the 50. Got it home and man we were upset.

But, it can be made faster. Like stated a new CDI will raise the rev limit. (RMSTATOR.com).
They have the throttle limited in 2 places. First the slide in the carb is too long. It only allows the throttle to open 1/2 way. If you cut the top part of the slide off it will now allow it to slide all the way open. The next way they have the throttle limited is inside the thumb throttle housing. Open it up and grind the stop down. This is also limiting the throttle to 1/2 position.

These 3 things will roughly double the speed of the little Raptor 50.
