you just check the ring end gap and make sure it has the proper clearance, and just so you know you cant hone or bore a nikasil coated cylinder

I honed my cr250(nikasil) cylinder ever time I put a new piston in it(Helps seat the rings) you can hone any cylinder.(maybe I am wrong if I am someone let me know because when I put a new piston in my 06 trx I will run a quick hone threw it.). Always was after 60 dec cross hatch and to take the smooth and shinny surface away.

my buddy honed his cylinder twice in one year. it ran strong all the way up until he got his head back from dee at rage and 5 hours later...BOOM!
For every good post, there are 5 bad. If you remember that you will be fine

You can deglaze a plated cylinder with oven cleaner. Just don't leave it on more than 20 or 30 minutes.

the main objective is to get the polished surface textured again.

Honing does that but It most likely takes away some of the coating also.

The oven cleaner sounds like it might be the ticket. Although I have never tried it personally.

You are not supposed to hone a plated cylinder.
