400ex got wet, now wont start

After trail riding all day and hitting quite a few water/mudholes my 400ex wouldnt start. At first when I hit the start button i got absolutley nothing. Then after a few tries I heard a clicking sound but still no start up. It started great all day long but right at the end of the day is when this happened. Is this common? has this happened to any of you out there? I am going to let everything dry out overnight and then try again in the morning. It compression starts easy so I am guessing it is an electrical problem with the starter. Any tips?

check yer fuse n pissibly your plug. im not sure where the clicking came from though. where did it sound like it wuz coming from?

i had the exact same problem all u need to do is take you battery cables off and clean them real good with a wire brush and the little circle thing that is right next to the battery needs to be clean off and make sure every thing is dry and like honda400exrider said check ur fuse to

yeah, user101 is right, mine made a little clicking noise and it wouldnt start out on the trail, i just shook the cable a little bit and realized it was loose, just make sure that the cables are snug, i dont think it'd be your starter from getting wet since its sealed but strange things break

Or you could just tighten the connections, thats probably whats wrong.

Check for a loose connection on either the battery or ground. One of the guys that rides with us ran into the same problem, that is would not start. All it was a loose connection to the ground.

if you will just pour coke on the battery connections it will eat away any corrosion that has built up on them.

I took the battery off and the little round thing that sits in front of the battery. I think it is the starter solenoid. I cleaned all the terminals and put everything back togethor and it starts great. I dunno if it was all the dirt or if one of the connections was loose but it starts good now.

good deal. a tip in case you don't already do this, before you go riding around water, spray all electrical connections with wd40, especially where the spark plug is. it helps a lot.
