    440 kit help

I am looking at getting the 440 kit for my '02 400ex. However I never do anything with out research first. I talked to a machine gyro and he asked me a few different questions. I was wondering if anyone out there that has done this has the specs as to what the cylinder needs to be bored out to, to accept the new sleeve. second of all the machine guy asked me if the bore was perpendicular to the head mounting surface. If any one has an install spec sheet with dimensions as to what needs to be done to the cylinder it would help me out greatly Thanks in advance

Cant answer your above question, sorry.

But, you will want to get Heavy Duty studs. The 440's have a bad habit of pulling studs.

There's a lot of other 440 guru's that can help you more than I. Just one thing I wanted to point out real quick.

I know how much the kit is. What I was looking for were the technical specs. Example; How much do I need to bore the cylinder out to accept the new sleeve? After installation do I need to have anything precission ground? Will I need to file the piston rings? That kind of stuff. If anyone knows if there is a different thread where I can get such info. I have ordered the kit I want to get the cylinder to the machine shop to get the work started.

The Weisco and JE piston rings come pre gapped. The machinest should know what he needs to do by measuring the sleeve when he gets it in his hands.

I have a high comp. 440 studs are a must ( for anything over 11to1) & the cyl. will have to be machined to accept the 440 sleeve any decent machine shop wont have any trouble with it the studs must be set at the right heights though the front ,back & thesides are all at diferent heights ,get g.t thunder studs & follow their directions I run 12.5 to 1 if you dont mind getting really high test it will be a mover with lots of low end well beyond a regualar well modded ex & you can gear it for nice high top end & it wont wimp out on you itll just keep pullin .

I had a 440ex kit installed. I blew so many head gaskets and I pulled all four studs. I bought a new cylinder and put it back to stock. go with a 416. your alot better off with that and a cam maby so porting.

    Thumbs up

you should have at least .003 between cylinder and sleeve. heavy
duty head studs are a must.
