Help, I need a new sport quad.

OK, I need some help. I am 6" tall and weigh 225lbs. I have an 85' atc250r and I do fine on it, but in January I broke my ankle and have trouble starting it. I guess I need an electric start bike. I go to the dunes at Pismo ,Ca and that is where I do most of my riding. I bought the kids a pair of 250ex but they are to small and I want more power. This is the bad part, there are so many diffrent bikes out there 400's and up to the new 700 that I don't know which bike to buy. I went to the local atv shop that carries all brands. The salesman told me that the yfz450 was for racing only and should be rebult every 20 hours, that sounded pretty funny but he said he wasn't joking. He suggested the pdeditor 500. He didn't have any Raptors in stock and didn't know when he would be getting any. He kept pusshing the Polaris, but I think he had so many in stock he was trying to get rid of some of them. He only had a couple of 450r ( kick start anyway) to bad I have always been a honda guy. One Bombideer or some such thing it was big and heavy looking ,but it was a sport bike. Anyway I know I wrote quite a bit here, but I just needed some advise. Oh by the way the bike i end up buying will stay stock. I know it's boring but a lot less problems that way. Thanks for the help in advance.

i like the predator and the 450r r nice, id say go with the pred. there a great all around bike. stay away from the bombardier(ds650) and the rappy. and since u dont like kickstart then i guess the 450r is out for u. the 400s r good but dont have great power, so id say get the pred., there a great bike and built to last........ wow cant beleive i jsut said that.

and the guy saying the yfz has to be rebuilt every 20hrs, is bs.

Thanks for the help. I like the looks of the Preditor andI did sit on the bike and it was comfortable. The dealership had two different ones, the orange ones were the regular models and the white ones were rejetted at the factory and had an upgraded pipe. The orange ones were 6399.00 and the white rejetted were 6699.00. I don't know if this is a good price or a little high. This was the first dealership that I looked at,but I think I will find a different dealership. It didn't sound like that salesman was very up on the products he was selling. He made the yfz 450 sound like a disposable bike and I have only heard good things about them.

I wouldnt pay that much for the predator if I were you.. Go to a different dealer.. Depending on what you want, it comes with plenty of power and speed stock, you should go with the TLD model, and if it isnt enough, upgrade it yourself...

The white one is an LE and the orange one is a TLD. I have a LE and the fox shock are smooth. It came with a WB slip-on and it isn't jetted. It has stock jetting 150main. Also the LE has a different gearing than the TLD. LE has the standard gearing. I had a KFX and for me I made the right choice with the LE.

I juts love my pred...I have heard many good things about the yfz and I have heard bad. I also think the pred wuld fit u better than the yfz as well cuz the yfz's are a little on the small side. But with whatever u chose, you will be very happy. O yea and the pred has reverse and the yfz dont so u can keep that in mind as well if u dont like getting off ur bike and pushing

I'm 6'4" and go around 300 pounds in all my race gear. I have over 50 races on my 03 Predator and love it. The quad has proven to me to be bullet proof with all the abuse I have given it over the last two years of racing XC. Being larger than most riders, it fits me well. I have sat on the honda and yamaha and it feels like my heels are up my rear. I say if you go with the Pred, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all your help guys. The dealer also said the tld model had a long range from 4th to 5th gear, that was another reason he suggested the le model. Any thougths????

The TLD has short gearing 2 through 4 so you will have to do more shifting but will have more immediate power through those gears. The LE has standard transmission, less shifting because of longer gears. both 1st and 5th gears are the same. On the LE (I own one) there is a big drop off from 1st to second gear so if your more of going slower through the trails i would get the tld and LE if your a faster rider or more open areas. though the le already comes with the Pure polaris exhaust which helps alot. Just drop in a k&n and put four more disks on the exhaust ($65 total) and you wont even notice it. Every time i shift out of first into second at high rpms my front end comes up or i leave a rooster tail. Either one you will be happy with. I would go with the LE because of the extras that come with it.
