    '05 Recon questions

Just bought a brand new Recon for the wife. Gave it to her for her b-day. I notice it makes an intermitant noise while idleing. Sounds like in the lower end of the motor. Anyone ever experience this on their Recon, or 250EX for that matter? Hope it's one of those noises that goes away maybe after running it some. It doesn't sound like the valves either. Just hope I don't have to take it back to the dealer, bad enoughtt they're an hour away, plus it always seems to take forever. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!!!

I took it back to the dealer a few weekends ago, being under warranty and all. The mechanic said the same thing, it's the clutch. Funny, never heard it before on my ATC 110 and my dad's ATC 200m. And those are 20 year old machines. I listened to my nephews 250EX after I took mine back to the dealer, his 250 makes that slight knocking noise also. Guess it specific to that 250 series motor.

the sound is most likely from the clutch chattering. it goes away after awhile when broken in. there is two clutches in your motor one is the driven and the other is the drive clutch. ill explane more on that later.

Sounds logical. Probably only have about a total of 6 hrs on it anyhow. Once it's broke in it'll probably sound quieter. By the way speedy, I have an '03 400EX that I plan on setting up like yours, 22" rears, 23" fronts. Probably just a silencer, K@N with outerwear, mostly keep it stock, just want to open her up a little. How do you like your FMF PC 4? Personally, I like the looks of them on a 400, never seen one on the trails though. How does it sound, it isn' t obnoxiously loud is it? Thanks!!

the power core 4 is a little loud but not like some other race pipes out there. you do feel more power with just the muffler... the PC4 is USFS approved for trail use. my 400ex is one hell of a trail quad. just watch out for big rocks. with the taller tires and a good skid plate your in better shape then stock. also if you keep the gearing stock. you will gain some top end speed but loss torqe down low. witch is ok since the 400 is geared tall anyway.
also a clarks 5 gal tank. will get you over 7- 8 hours or more of riding time.

i have a jet kit forsale for a 400ex very cheap and nothing missing. 20 bucks plus shipping.
