airbox- greasing around

i always gease the filter lip[on a foam filter] and also a real thin layer about 2 inches inside the air boot. just in case anything gets by the filter seal, it will get stuck to the boot, instead of your carb. done it for years on my mx bikes, so its kind of a habit i guess. try it, youll be surprized to see what it catches.

best way to clean the boot is to remove it.

how does it come off the airbox? i now how to get the other end off that connects to the carb and all i should have to do is remove the clamp to that thing on the side of the hose that it goes too... but how does it come off the box?

it pops off the stock lid, the airbox sits between 2 lips on the boot. if you want just take the whole box out, spray with whatever use to clean/degrease then powerwash, wipe clean, reinstall.

if you take just the boot off, honda has silicone from the factory around the connection, you could re-silicone or put some bel-ray waterproof grease around this area.

I only grease the lid itself. It seals the entire box from stuff coming in the top.

Did you know...

the airbox on the 2003 and up is a newer version that has extra supports?

Just an FYI for anyone who ends up having to replace the older style. You need the new airbox plus a metal bracket on each side.
