Who rides in the snow? Come in.

Well this past summer i purchased my first 400 ex. So far i am loving it. However i have some questions, aside from needing to lube the chain etc are there any damaging things that can come from tearing around in the snow? Anything i need to be looking out for?

I have noticed that after a good session of riding in the snow that my brakes seem to freeze up sometimes. I dont think that this is normal so what could i do to possibly stop this? All new brake fluid?

Also are there any tips or tricks that anyone has to keep the quad from getting packed with snow?

I ride in the snow all the time up here in Ohio. I dont know about the breaks freezing. My 250ex rears would always freeze because of the drum brake. My cables would get wet and freeze leaving me with only fronts. Maybe just check around your rear pad and rotar, make sure no ice is frozen causing it not to work properly. It just might collect snow and melt and then freeze. The only problem i think you could have in the snow is over revving the bike for longs period of times when you are riding. As long as you dont do that, you shouldn't have any problems with the bike in the snow.

i live in buffalo Ny where we get a **** load of snow and the only thing taht sucks is after a long day a riding and putting it away the next day wehn u go ride my rear caliper is frozen up i have an 04 400ex but after i ride for a little they unfreeze

I ride my 400ex every time it snows!!! its a blast and I haven't had it break down yet.

yea it doesnt take long for the rear break to freeze all you have to do is drag the brake for a little bit, the friction will thaw it out. otherwise just put a heater by it after im done riding and its good to go for the next ride. i have no idea how to keep your frame from getting packed, once the snow gets around 6-8 inches deep it doesnt take long. Were is Viola located? im from wausau, right in the middle of the state.

It doesnt seem to be the rear brake, but the front to the point where I cant get the front tires to stop in the snow.

all you can do while your riding is pull in your brake lever and hold it for a while as you ride, they will work within a minute or so.
