Race Coverage and Pics w/ Kory Ellis

Quad races are a big part of "Motocross Sunday's" at Woodland Motocross Park in Woodland, WA. The Sunday Event usually attracts an average of 60-70 quad racers, which is considered a good turn out for a local race in the Pacific Northwest.

From 8:00am – 11:30am is the kid’s time to race. The kid’s classes have just as healthy of a turn out as the adult’s classes. Every season there are more and more kids racing, which to me, points to a very promising future for the sport as a whole.
This is the 80cc-90cc Amateur Class on the starting line.

The adult practice laps start at noon. There is usually 2 ½ - 3 rows of quads on the line for practice.

Just before Christmas, Kory Ellis was in Washington State, visiting his hometown of Longview. While in town, Kory came out to race at Woodland MX Park, where he says it all started for him.
Kory didn’t waste any time getting off the line to practice

Kory was amazingly fast even during practice. My camera even had a hard time keeping up with him on some of the high-speed sections of the track.

There were many racers that had found out Kory would be racing at Woodland. Some traveled over four hours just to have a chance to see how they would stack up against a National Pro. Unfortunately, #18 never got his chance, after breaking his axle during practice.

Washington State is notorious for the amount of rainfall it receives which can just about turn the event into a mud bogging contest rather than an MX race. Amazingly, the weather was cooperative for the most part; which means there were no torrential downpours that are all too common for December. There were a few sprinkles throughout the day, but that didn’t stop Kory and the other “Open Class” riders from getting enough traction to come screaming off the starting gate

Nicholas Delagrange, #8, took first in the “Open Class” hole shot, with Jesse Goss, #2, taking second, but Ellis was right on Goss’ heels.
