thinking of juicing my motor up..suggestions

Ok, I see a lot of you are putting the high compression pistons w/ cams. And of course going w/ the 416 to 440 kit. I am new to this so bare w/ me. What I want to know is, what should I do. I see on ebay they list the stock size piston but high compression. Would that make a noticable difference? Would I need a upgraded cam to go w/ that?
Or should I just get the 440 kit? Can I just get the new kit and a cam and be done?
Of course I will have my carb rejetted a pipe & filter. I really don't want to spend too much money so any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks!!

If you go with a 440 kit expect to pay a lot more. You will need more things to be done to your engine as well to get the full potential out of a 440, like bigger valves, hardface the rockers, stiffer valve springs and a bigger carb and yada yada yada. I'm in the same boat as you. I am wanting to bump my power up and do a fresh top end, I think I'm going with either the 406 or 416 bore w/ JE piston (maybe ross haven't decided yet) stage 1 hot cam and probably a new cam chain while I've got it apart and valve seals. I'm thinking this is like middle of the road, not cheapin out and just throwing in rings, but not going all out either. I'm a broke *** college kid so this will have to do for now.

you will want a cam. that cam makes a large difference. i would get a 406 or 416 with a cam. you will be able to get these, gaskets, and the boring for less than $400. you need to install it though. you will get a nice increase of power.

see, I could see spending $400 on a 416 kit. Other than the cam and installing would that all I would need to do. Or will I need to hardface the rockers, stronger springs and all that?

You dont need to, but I'm thinking I'm going to do a couple of things as preventative maitenance seeing as Ill have the thing apart anyways. i think i'm just going to do valve seals and heavy duty cam chain.
